The Faculty of Architecture and Planning at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), also known as AKTU Faculty of Architecture, is a prominent educational institution situated on a 6-acre site within walking distance from the city center of Hazratganj in Lucknow. This institution has a rich history dating back to its inception as part of the Government College of Arts & Crafts in 1911, making it one of the oldest architecture schools in India.

In 1976, the institution separated from the Government College of Arts & Crafts and adopted the name 'Govt. School of Architecture.' It was later renamed 'Govt. College of Architecture, Lucknow' in 1980, commonly referred to as GCA, Lucknow. This change marked its establishment as a constituent college of Lucknow University.

Up until the academic session of 1999-2000, the College, constituting the 'Faculty of Architecture' of Lucknow University, conducted a 5-year degree course leading to a Bachelor's degree in Architecture (B. Arch). However, beginning with the academic session of 2000-2001, the institution was affiliated with the newly established U.P. Technical University, Lucknow (now Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University) for all academic matters, following a government decision that applied to all technical institutions in the state.

The Faculty of Architecture and Planning at AKTU continues to uphold its legacy of excellence in architectural education and remains a vital part of the technical education landscape in Uttar Pradesh.
