About the webinar: In order to respond to the need for design interventions in monuments and sites; conservation and design professionals need a brief introduction to the charters of ICOMOS and UNESCO guidelines for conservation of built heritage in urban or rural scenarios. The webinar will introduce these international guidelines along with sharing interesting case studies across the globe, where designers have done interventions to built heritage and surroundings to respond to the contemporary needs and society. About the speaker: Ar. Nishant Upadhyay, an alumnus of the Faculty of Architecture, AKTU, Lucknow, has been trained as a conservation architect in RLICC, KULeuven, Belgium.He is the founder architect of DHARATAL a design studio with a specialization in vernacular architecture and historical landscapes. At present he works as heritage consultant for state governments of India and UNESCO Dhaka Office. He is a PhD candidate at KU Leuven with a research focus on the role of historical landscape conservation in sustainable regional development, with the case of the Royal Gardens of Rajnagar in Bundelkhand, India. He is also an active ICOMOS India member and central zone representative of EPWG, COMOS India.
As per the initiative taken under the National Strategic Plan (NSP) for Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination five TB patients have been adopted by the faculty of our institute. We have been monitoring their treatment and wellbeing since then in coordination with the KGMC officials. We have extended our full hearted support to the TB patients whether it be moral support or financial support and shared our contact information with them so that they can always contact us in case of any need.
A 3 day workshop on Spatial Narratives was conducted by eminent architect Yatin Pandya. Architect Yatin Pandya besides practicing is an author, activist, acdemician and researcher as well and has been associated with CEPT University Ahmedabad, NID Ahmedabad and has been a lecturer to various universities abroad as well.The workshop engaged students in an intense way to understand the timelessness that architecture yearns for and the outcome was in the form of a Muesorial project.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University has conducted the Tree Plantation Drive from 9th-15th August. to honour the occasion, Faculty of Architecture & Planning, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University hosted Tree Plantation Ceremony on 09th June 2019 at the Gomti Riverfront opposite to Chattar Manzil. Students of FOAP have planted over 250 saplings of Neem, Peepal, Imli, Amaltas etc. The tree plantation drive is FOAP's commitment towards better environment.
Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University hosted a Faculty Development Program from 10th-14th June 2019 on “Computer Applications in Architecture” in association with AICTE. Studio Symbiosis whose principal founding member’s Britta Knobel Gupta and Amit Gupta are pioneers in the field parametric architecture conducted the program.The program was an intensive one and brought together faculty members from various institutions and involved a lot of brainstorming sessions. The end product of the FDP was a lightweight structure made by the participants in campus.
Dr Shaleen Singhal visited the campus on 9th March for a special lecture on Literature review in Research and methodology for review .Dr. Singhal is a Professor at TERI School of Advanced Studies with 21 years of research and academic experience working on sustainable urban development issues in India and UK
Faculty of Architecture, Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University opened its door for the first ever Open House exhibition on 3rd January 2018. Prof.D C. Thapar inaugurated the exhibition. Deans and Directors from architecture schools in Lucknow were present to witness the work of the students. Architects from the city were also present. This was an opportunity to visit the Architecture campus, speak to professors and current students, and see demonstrations and displays of student work, portfolios done over the semester. Entries prepared for Annual National competitions like NASA were also displayed. The projects like Extension of Archival Gallery, Abdul Kalam Memorial, AKTU, Retrofitting of Lal Baradari, Conservation of Chhattar Manzil Complex, RURBAN project, that the faculty has undertaken as consultancy were showcased.
Faculty of Architecture, Lucknow, currently affiliated by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University inaugurated its new Academic Block Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya Academic Block with Hon’ble Chancellor & H.E. Governor of U.P. Shri. Ram Naik being the Chief guest. Special guest for the occasion was Shri. Ashutosh Tandon, Hon’ble Technical & Medical Education Minister of U.P. Dr. Neeta Das conducted workshop on conservation materials with special emphasis on lime from 14th- 16th March at Faculty of Architecture campus. Dr. Das is the chairperson of NGO Mansara, Center for the study, Conservation and Development of the Built Heritage and listing faculty at School of Architecture,CEPT University.
Faculty of Architecture, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University hosted Pravah Art and Cultural fest at its Tagore Marg campus on 7th and 8th March 2019. The zonal level winners from engineering colleges all over UP, under the umbrella of AKTU participated in the finals.An array of competitions such as Face Painting, Rangoli making, T-shirt painting, Mehendi design, Collage making and Poster making were held.Distinguished personalities were invited as the judges for all the events. Their expertise and knowledge diversified thoughts and approaches for judging varied entries.
A lecture on Lord Claude Martin and Chhatarmanzil was delivered by Dr. Rosie Llewellyn Jones. Dr. Jones is a well-known British scholar with an expertise on Lucknow and has authored several books on the city including “Last King in India, Wajid Ali Shah; Lucknow City of Illusions; Engaging Scoundrels;, and The Great Uprising In India, 1857.
